Taiga Exterior Wood
We are proud to provide the widest array of industry leading pressurized wood products in the Pacific North West region.
Upon receiving wood from the region’s top producers of raw lumber, the specialist team at our Washougal, Washington location inspects each piece, sorts it into the right grade for the right application, and applies the treatment appropriate for each specific use. Using low-toxicity preservatives, we guard against insect damage, rot, and fire while preserving the natural beauty and character of the wood.
Our finished treated lumber products then head to our distribution center where they are carefully stored and rotated until it’s time to ship to retailers in the Western United States and Canada.
*Taiga is a wholesale distributor of pressurized wood products, we do not sell directly to the general public. Please contact the nearest retailer for product and pricing information.

All Purpose Lumber (APCL)
Exterior Wood pressure treated lumber and timbers to above ground, ground contact and in-ground structural use categories using the most effective and environmentally conscious preservatives that we can find – and trust. The result is wood that is strong enough to stand up to wood’s natural enemies – namely termites and decay.
Treated with a copper-based preservative and effective fungicides, this wood is ideal for many applications including decks, retaining walls, fences, picnic tables, planter boxes, walkways, sill plate and structural members. It comes with a limited lifetime warranty for most residential applications.
Wolmanized® wood is a natural and environmentally responsible choice: it’s made from wood, a renewable resource, treatment extends the life of the wood, and the preservative used is as gentle as it can be and still be effective and long-lasting.
This wood meets requirements of model building codes for many applications, and code evaluation reports on this wood have been issued by National Evaluation Service (ESR-1721). The CA-C treatment is listed also in the standards of the American Wood Protection Association (AWPA) for above-ground and ground-contact applications (Use Categories UC1, UC2, UC3A, UC3B, UC4A, and UC4B).
Internationally, it is approved by government and trade agencies throughout Europe and in Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.
Hot-dipped galvanized fasteners (meeting ASTM A 153) and connectors (ASTM A 653 Class G185 sheet), or better, are recommended. For Permanent Wood Foundations and corrosive environments, such as areas with saltwater spray, use 304 or 316 stainless steel. Aluminum should not be used in direct contact with this wood, unless an adequate physical barrier separates the aluminum from the wood or the manufacturer ensures the performance of the aluminum product.
For indoor applications, while galvanized fasteners are preferable, the use of non galvanized nails or screws of sizes and types approved by the Model Code is acceptable when attaching joists, studs or other framing to Wolmanized® sill plate, provided the wood will remain dry in service, protected from weather and water. Likewise, the use of standard galvanized strapping, anchor plates, or mild steel anchor bolts 1/2” diameter and larger is acceptable for fastening Wolmanized® wood to foundations, provided that the wood will remain dry in service, protected from the weather and water.

Fire Retardant Treated Wood Interior
FIRE TREATED INTERIOR WOOD CAN TAKE THE HEAT
Fire Treated Interior Wood reduces flame spread and smoke development, enhancing its ability to maintain structural strength in a fire. Although other fire retardant wood products and laminates are available, some suffer from heat degradation problems. Furthermore, laminates treated on only one side of the sheet do not offer thorough protection from heat spread and combustion.
Unlike similar products, Fire Treated Interior Wood does not pick up excessive moisture, even at a relative humidity of 95%. Tests show that Fire Treated Interior Wood is no more corrosive than untreated wood, even when the relative humidity reaches 100%.
No other fire retardant product, treated or untreated, can match fire retardant treated (FRT) wood’s long term track record for effectiveness. In fact, FRT offered superior performance in thousands of applications conducted under the most challenging conditions.
Fire retardant treated wood has been used for decades in institutional buildings. As more homes are built near forests and wildlands, the threat of fire is increasing to residential property and inhabitants. FRT wood provides an extra measure of safety for homeowners and may even increase escape time in the event of a fire.
FRT does not pick up excessive moisture, even at a relative humidity of 95%. Tests show that FRT is no more corrosive than untreated wood, even when the relative humidity reaches 100%.
A light sanding and thorough wiping should be performed prior to the application of any finish. Stains, sealers, varnishes, and paints can be used on FRT. Paints can be either water based or oil based; stains should be solvent-based to avoid possible surface crystallization of the fire retardant chemical. FRT does not adversely affect the performance of nonstructural constructive adhesives, mastics or contact cements. Using carbide tipped saw blades and hot dipped galvanized steel fasteners is recommended.

Fire Retardant Treated Wood Exterior
FRX ® EXTERIOR FIRE RETARDANT TREATED WOOD
The ASTM E-84 tunnel test compares surface burning characteristics of tested materials to those of asbestos cement board and untreated red oak lumber. A rating of 0 is assigned to asbestos cement board and a rating of 100 is assigned to untreated red oak flooring. Flame spread ratings of various species of untreated lumber range from 60 to 230.
During this test, smoke emissions are also measured and ratings are assigned on the same scale. The ratings are established during the first 10 minutes. Unlike for fire retardant coatings, however, building codes required that the test be extended from 10 minutes to 30 minutes and the flame spread did not progress more than 10 1⁄2 feet beyond the burners and showed no evidence of progressive combustion.
Further ASTM E-84 testing is then conducted on material that has undergone the ASTM D-2898 accelerated weathering test, also referred to as the “800-inch rain test.” FRX® lumber and plywood maintain flame spread indexes of less than 25, indicating compliance with building code requirements for exterior FRTW. Standard tests for surface burning characteristics of materials referenced in the model codes as a basis of acceptance are all essentially the same.
FRX® exterior fire retardant treated wood combines the beauty and versatility of wood with the fire safety and insurance advantages of non-combustible materials.
The people who developed FRX® wood for interior applications and the people who developed FRX® shakes and shingles now offer FRX® wood, fire retardant treated wood that retains its fire retardancy in outdoor use.
FRX® wood is pressure treated lumber and plywood that is chemically treated to reduce the spread of flames and provide tested fire protection for applications directly exposed to weather.
FRX® wood may be substituted for materials classified as non-combustible in certain building types designated by the model building codes and requiring ASTM D-2898 conformance.
FRX® wood combines that beauty and versatility of wood with the fire safety and insurance advantages of non-combustible materials.

NFPA 255 – Method of Test Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials is essentially the same as ASTM E-84. UBC Standard 8-1 Test Method for Surface-Burning
Characteristics of Building Materials is based on Standard Test Method ASTM E-84. FRX® wood has been tested via ASTM D-143 and MIL-L-19140E. Following are the design value adjustments for FRX® wood.

Farm & Ranch
WOLMANIZED ® WOOD FOR FARM AND RANCH
There are solid reasons why wood remains an ideal material to use in agricultural construction. It is widely available, has a higher ratio of strength to stiffness than steel or concrete, has greater electrical resistivity than metals and is easy to work. Wood also has a relatively high insulation value and, when used as siding, may help reduce heating bills. Furthermore, wood is the only major building material that’s renewable, and it requires less energy to produce than other building products.
Wolmanized® CCA Heavy Duty™ wood combats the insect exposure and deterioration that occurs in barns and utility sheds. Wolmanized® CCA Heavy Duty™ wood also resists decay-producing fungi when used in the construction of stables, greenhouses and laying parlors. This wood even helps withstand other similar problems encountered because of the controlled atmosphere necessary to endure summer’s heat or winter’s cold in milk plants, cold storage warehouses, and tobacco storage buildings.
Fences and gates built with Wolmanized® CCA Heavy Duty™ wood have created strong, long-lasting barriers that have stood up to pressure from livestock, soil and weather conditions.

X-BOR Borate Treatment
PRESSURE-IMPREGNATED WOOD WITH A BORATE (SBX)
X-BOR® wood has been pressure-impregnated with a borate (SBX) preservative which makes the wood resistant to attack by insects and fungal decay. It should only be used for interior and/or weather-shielded applications because the preservative will leach from the wood when exposed to water. Specify X-BOR® wood for areas that are not subject to direct contact with water. It is an ideal building material where borate leaching is unlikely except during the initial period of construction.
The preservative, borate (SBX), used to make X-BOR® wood is listed in the AWPA Book of Standards for all Use Category 1 and Use Category 2 (UC1 and UC2) applications – where the treated wood is used above-ground and protected from weather, but may be subject to sources of moisture. Typical applications include interior construction, such as sill plate, framing and sheathing.
Borate treated wood should be protected from moisture even during storage. Keep the protective wrap on the unit during storage or store inside.
X-BOR® Wood Protects Against:
TERMITES — Many homeowners have found that, against some termites, standard soil treatment alone is an inadequate defense.
ROT & DECAY — The fungi that cause wood rot exist throughout the US. X-BOR® wood provides protection for the home’s sill plate and other interior uses.
COCKROACHES & OTHER PESTS — A laboratory study reported in the Forest Products Journal found only one of 60 cockroaches alive after 28 weeks exposure to borate-treated wood. In control enclosures with untreated wood, the cockroach population increased from 60 to 201. The authors conclude “The results suggested that borate pressure-treated lumber may provide control of cockroaches in the immediate vicinity.”
